Lions leave nothing to chance; hang onto top pick; updated … If Detroit was ever going to win a game this year, this should have been the week; the Lions were playing at home against two-win Philadelphia. And for awhile, the Lions kept it close. But then the game kicked off! And when the dust had settled at the end of 60 minutes, the Lions were on the very short end of a 44-6 scoreline. That drops the Lions to 0-8, still the NFL’s only remaining winless team, and will again have them sitting on the #1 pick overall, at least for another week, in the opening round selection order if the 2022 draft to be held this week. Meanwhile, at least for this week, it appears that Houston will have the second pick, while Philadelphia will pick third with Miami’s first-round pick; however, there is almost no difference in the SOS figures for the Texans and Dolphins, so that could conceivably go back and forth all year long as long as the two teams have the same record. It should be pointed out, though, that of the three remaining one-win teams, Jacksonville has a somewhat weaker SOS number than either Houston or Miami, but has played one game less and will actually move up to 2nd were the Jags to lose their ‘game-in-hand’. And at least for tonight, the NY Jets stay at #5 despite upsetting Cincinnati earlier this afternoon, while the Giants are still 6th. The two, though, will swap #s 5-6 if the Giants lose in Kansas City in the Monday nighter. As usual, the full first-round selection order will be updated after tomorrow night’s game.
