New football year starts today … The NFL’s new football year officially gets underway at 4 PM ET later this afternoon. At that time, very team has to be under the 2021 salary cap and teams can begin formally signing free agents, while trades can also be officially formalized. Of course, while the free agent signing period doesn’t formally get underway until the start this afternoon, teams have been allowed to negotiate with other team’s free-agents-to-be this week and many of the top players on the market this year have already come to terms with new teams.
