New football year looming; tampering window open … The NFL’s new football year officially gets underway at 4 PM ET on Wednesday when every team has to be under the 2021 salary cap and teams can begin signing free agents, while trades can also be officially formalized. And while the free agent signing period doesn’t formally get underway until the start of the new year, teams will be allowed to negotiate with other team’s free-agents-to-be beginning Monday morning, although nothing can be signed until Wednesday.
