Giants to tag DL Williams; deadline still looming … Still no word from the NFL whether today’s deadline for teams to designate players with either a franchise or transition tag will be extended with the salary cap still not yet known. The tag deadline is currently set for the end of business later this afternoon. Reports out of New York indicate that the Giants will be franchising DE/DT Leonard Williams for a second straight season, although the two sides are reportedly still talking toward a long-term deal. That would make four players who have been franchised including safeties Justin Simmons of Denver and the Jets Marcus Maye and Washington OG Brandon Scherff.
