Big Board tweaked

January 20, 2021

Big Board tweaked … For those that haven’t noticed it yet, but the GBN Big Board has been updated to reflect some trends that we’re picking up from around the league. Perhaps the most noticeable move is that Northwestern G/T Rashawn Slater now appears to be in the top ten on a growing number of boards around the league. There is even a little bit of buzz that he could ultimately carry a higher grade into the 2021 draft than Oregon LT Penei Sewell, although we still have the latter as the 2nd rated player overall, while Slater comes in at #6. Slater is a little shorter than teams usually want in a prototype LT prospect, but he is a very physical, athletic offensive lineman with outstanding technique. One other top 15-20 move of note has South Carolina CB Jaycee Horn moving up into the middle of the opening round and into a position where he could conceivably challenge Alabama’s Patrick Surtain and/or Caleb Farley of Virginia Tech for the top grade at the position. Meanwhile, a couple of moves further on down the top 50 has Oklahoma OLB Ronnie Perkins showing up in the latter part of the opening round at #29, while TCU safety Trevon Moehrig now appears at #40. The other noteworthy item in this Big Board iteration is that it appears that there could be some slippage among the top half dozen or so QBs. In particular, while Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields of Ohio State and BYU’s Zack Wilson are still among the top 4-5 prospects, Trey Lance of North Dakota State and Alabama’s Mac Jones have dropped closer to the middle of the opening round, while Kyle Trask of Florida is currently listed at #26 closer to the end of the first round. However, with so many teams looking to address some kind of issue at QB before the start of the season it is very possible that those three guys get pushed back up closer to the top ten. Stay tuned!
