Jags clinch top pick; Jets #2; #3 still to be decided … As a result of today’s early games, Jacksonville has clinched the #1 pick overall at the 2021 draft. The Jaguars left nothing to chance as they were drubbed at home by Chicago to drop to 1-14. And that top pick became theirs to keep when the NY Jets upset short-handed Cleveland to go to 2-13. Because the Jets have played a significantly harder schedule than the Jags, even if Jacksonville won next week and and the Jets lost, the Jaguars would still retain the top pick. Of course, the Jaguars are expected to select Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence with the #1 pick. Meanwhile, the Jets are guaranteed the second pick overall. The remaining picks from #3 on down, though, won’t be decided until the final week of the schedule. Like the Jets, Cincinnati, which had been sitting on the 3rd pick for weeks now, won their second game in a row to push their record to 4-10-1 and out of the third slot at least for this week. In fact, it will be either Atlanta or Miami with Houston’s pick at #3, at least for this week, although as of now there is almost no difference in their relative SOS figures. What we do know is that, again at least for the week, Cincinnati will be at #5, Philadelphia at #6, Detroit at #7, the NY Giants at #8, Carolina at #9 with Denver rounding out the top 10. As usual, the full selection order will be posted after tomorrow night’s Monday night game.
