Tua cleared to work out; on track for April pro day … For those that missed the story yesterday, Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa has been cleared by tem doctors to begin working out again. Tagovailoa, a top 5 prospect for the 2020 draft, underwent season-ending surgery to repair a fractured hip in early November and has been rehabbing since. This is the next step in the recovery process after his medical tests at last month’s scouting combine were all reportedly positive. Tagovailoa, though, will still not work out at Alabama’s regular pro day on March 24th, but instead will have a private pro day at the school on April 9th which should be well attended. With Cincinnati expected to take LSU QB Joe Burrow with the first pick at the upcoming draft, the speculation is that Tagovailoa will be taken with either the second or third picks overall. Those picks are, of course, held by Washington and Detroit, respectively, both of which could conceivably either select Tagovailoa themselves or trade the pick. Right now, the ball in that regard, is in Washington’s court and there have been multiple conflicting reports/rumors of where the Redskins are at. We’ve heard, for example, in recent days that new head coach Ron Rivera is less than enamored with Dwayne Haskins, whom the Redskins selected in last year’s opening round, and wants to take Tagovailoa, while owner Dan Snyder, who pushed for the Haskins pick last spring, wants to give the former Ohio State star more time. At the same time, we are picking up other whispers that defensive-guru Rivera wants to take Ohio State DE Chase Young with the #2 pick, while its Snyder who wants the upgrade at QB in Tua. Of course, it all could just be a little smoke and mirrors by the Redskins to gin up interest in a trade down.
