Big day at combine

February 27, 2020

Busy day at combine as on-field workouts begin … It will be arguably the busiest day at the scouting combine in Indianapolis today with all four groups involved. The defensive backs will be measured and weighed, the offensive linemen and RBs will be doing the bench press, the defensive linemen and LBs will have interviews and medical tests, while the QBs and receivers will be the first to do their on-field drills. Those begin at 4 PM ET with coverage on the NFL Network. In an attempt to make the event more viewer friendly there will reportedly be several new drills for each group, but the gold standard remains the 40, the vertical and to a lesser degree the agility drills. Of course, not all the players will actually be participating fully in the physical testing. Among the QBs, for example, neither of the two top-rated prospects – LSU’s Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama – will be working out, Burrow by choice and Tua because of injury, however, there is still going to be a lot of pressure on the second-tier guys such as Utah State’s Jordan Love and Justin Herbert of Oregon to see if they can close the gap on the top two prospects. And while much of the focus will be on the QBs, we are really interested to see how fast the top WR prsopects such as CeeDee Lamb of Oklahoma and Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy run the 40. Should be an interesting day.
