CSU WR; Cincy DTs in pro day spotlight … All 32 NFL teams had reps at the Colorado State pro day on Wednesday, with most there to check out WR Preston Williams. Williams had hoped to have a breakout workout at the combine after emerging as one of the most productive receivers in the country this past season when he exploded for 96 receptions for 1,345 yards and 14 TDs. However, Williams was not allowed to participate in the on-field part of the combine because of a past offense involving violence. As such, Williams had hoped to make up lost ground at the CSU pro day, but ultimately had to be a little disappointed with his numbers. Williams reportedly ran the 40 4.53 seconds, which is decent, but hardly earth-shattering, while his jumps of 31.5″ in the vertical and 9.7″ in the BJ were barely average. Meanwhile, there were over 30 scouts at the Cincinnati pro day with most in attendance to check out DTs Marquise Copeland and Cortez Broughton. Copeland, in particular, was one of the most surprising omissions from last week’s scouting combine in Indianapolis. And while neither is particularly big, both tested reasonably well. Copeland weighed in at 6-2, but only 281 pounds, while Broughton tipped the scales at 6-2, 293. Copeland then managed 26 reps in the bench, while posting a 30.5″ vertical and 9-2 in the broad jump. Copeland was credited with a 5.08 40 clocking along with times of 4.84 in the short shuttle and 7.58 in the 3-cone. Each of those figures would have been competitive at the combine, but one might have expected a little better from Copeland because he isn’t that big. Meanwhile, Broughton posted 24 reps in the bench press, a very athletic 33.5″ vertical, 5.01 in the 40 and 4.57 in the short shuttle, each of which would have been at least top half at the combine. At the same time, QB Hayden Moore weighed in at 6-2.5, 208 and ran the 40 in 4.79 seconds. Elsewhere, at Kansas State CB Duke Shelley may have put himself on the late round/free agent radar after he ran a reported 4.46 40. Shelley was having a productive year for the Wildcats this past fall, but tore a toe ligament mid-way through the campaign and did not play again.
