Draft heads west

December 2, 2018

Looks like draft could run thru bay area … There is still a month to go in the NFL’s regular schedule, but it is looking more and more like the bay area will be draft central this coming April as San Francisco and Oakland, the league’s two remaining two-win teams, will be holding the 1st and 2nd picks overall in this week’s ‘if the draft were held today’ selection order for the opening round of the 2019 draft. The New York Jets, who lost a heartbreaker in Tennessee in a late game this afternoon, move up to the 3rd pick, while Arizona, which stunned the Packers right in Green Bay, dropped from #2 to the 4th pick. Meanwhile, Detroit will have the 5th pick this week, while Atlanta will be at #6, the Giants at #7, Buffalo at #8, Jacksonville at 9 followed by Green Bay at #10 and Cleveland at #11. Note, though, that there are only minor differences in the strength of schedule figures for Detroit, Atlanta and the Giants, meaning that the 5th thru the 7th picks are still very tenuous. As usual, the full selection order for the opening round of the 2019 draft, were it to be held this week, will be updated after the Monday night game tomorrow.
