Minnesota kicked off the annual on-campus pro day schedule working out in front of 23 NFL teams. TE Maxx Williams, the Gophers top-rated prospect, sat on his combine numbers and only did positional drills, but reportedly did nothing to hurt his status as one of the 2015 drafts top rising stars. On the other hand, RB David Cobb wasn’t able to work out at all as he continues to try and rehab from a tweaked hamstring. Cobb now plans to be able to run for pro scouts in the first week of April when he is expected to run considerably faster than his 4.81 clocking on his first run at the combine when he pulled up lame over the final few meters. The standout among former Minnesota players who did work out was SS Cedric Thompson, who had a vertical leap of 40.5″ while running at least in the 4.50 range for the 40: indeed, one team reportedly had him as low as 4.37 seconds. Thompson, who was second on the Gophers with 83 tackles and picked off two passes in 2014, also managed 21 reps in the BP and may have vaulted himself into consideration for a late round call later this spring. Meanwhile, DT Cameron Boptticelli, who had 29 tackles including three sacks, last year, ran in the 5.15-5.20 range and posted 24 BP reps.
