Pats sign vet WR Matthews … New England has signed veteran WR Jordan Matthews to a one-year deal which could at least temporarily fill a big void in the Patriots’ roster after they traded WR Brandin Cooks to the LA Rams earlier this month. The Patriots did pick up a second opening pick in the deal for Cooks – they now have the Rams’ 23rd pick plus their own at #31 – which has engendered some speculation that New England could be angling to move in this month’s opening round. At the same time, though, it also appeared that the Patriots might just be forced to use those picks on a WR and an OT to replace Cooks and LT Nate Solder who signed as a free agent with the Giants. However, the addition of Matthews, who averaged 75 receptions per year with Philadelphia between 2014 and 2016, could give Bill belichek and company some flexibility at least at WR. Stay tuned!
