USC RB Jones runs

USC RB Jones runs at private workout … USC RB Ronald Jones ran a 4.48 40 at a private workout in Los Angeles this week. Jones was running because he was only able to clock a 4.65 time at the combine when he had to pull up with a hamstring injury. Jones also wasn’t ready to run at the Trojans’ official pro day as he was still rehabbing the hammy. However, while 4.48 is a better time – it actually would have beeen the 5th fastest time among RBs at the combine – Jones was probably hoping for something closer to 4.35. He’s a world class sprinter who competed on the USC track team with a PB of 10.37 seconds in the 100M. Jones is considered to be the #3 RB in this year’s draft class behind Saquon Barkley of Penn State and LSU’s Derrius Guice and was hoping that a fast time would cement a spot in the latter part of the opening round, but he may really have to hold his breath at the actual draft later this month, although NFL teams may figure he still isn’t fully 100% and is really faster. A couple of interesting sidenotes to Jones’ workout. USC QB Sam Darnold, who was in the midst of a cross-country tour visiting teams, flew back to LA to throw for Jones when he did receiving drills which could earn the former a few intangible points on his final grade. Meanwhile, USC WR Deontay Burnett who also didn’t run at the combine or the school’s pro day, also did the 40 at that special private workout, but had a somewhat disappointing 4.70 time, although like Jones he is also coming back from a hamstring injury and likely isn’t 100% either.
