The first group of WRs have completed their 40s and it looks like Chris Johnson’s all-time record of 4.24 seconds may be sagfe for another year after Miami WR Phillip Dorsett’s attempt to break the record came up short at 4.33. Still a very good time for Dorsett. The story of the group, though, may have been Alabama’s Amari Cooper who ran a very good 4.42 time alleviating concerns that he was only a 4.55 type guy. Indeed, Cooper threw the gauntlet down to West Virginia’s Kevin White who will run in the second group of receivers. At the same time, Missouri/Oklahoma WR Dorial Green-Beckham, who may the most talented pure receiver (ie without the off-field red flags) in this draft class when he ran under 4.5 seconds which is an excellent time for someone his size (6-5, 237). Same story for Auburn deep threat Sammie Coates who ran a defense stretching 4.43. On the other hand, Michigan TE-turned-WR Devin Funchess ran a very TE-like 4.70 40 which isn’t going to help his status. Meanwhile, other receivers to impress in today’s first group of receivers included unheralded Chris Conley of Georgia who stopped the clock in 4.35 seconds, while Nebraska’s Kenny Bell (4.40), USC’s Nelson Agholor (4.44) and Mario alford of West Virginia (4.43).
