OL BP

Cane OT leads OL BP … The bench press for offensive linemen at the scouting combine in Indianapolis appears to be done. And according to numbers from NFL.com, Miami OT Ereck Flowers led the way with 37 reps, although that’s well below Stephen Paea’s all-time record of 49 reps. Flowers edged out Missouri G/T Mitch Morse who had 36 reps, while Syracuse G/T Sean Hickey was another rep back with 35. Meanwhile, West Virgnia OG Mark Glowinski (with 31) and Florida State C/T Cam Erving and Hobart G/T Ali Marpet (with 30 each) were the only other offensive linemen with 30 or more reps in what was overall not a particularly impressive performance overall. Indeed, pro scouts were probably a little disappointed that Iowa G/T Brandon Scherff, the top-rated offensive lineman for the upcoming draft, only posted 23 BP reps, that despite the fact he measured in with relatively short 33-inch arms which tend to be an advantage in the bench press. There was a similar story for LSU G/T La’el Collins who only managed 21 reps (again with short arms) while Pitt’s T.J. Clemmings had 22 and Cedric Ogbuehi of Texas A&M 23, as did Colorado State’s Ty Sambrailo. At the other end of the spectrum, Wisconsin G/T Rob Havenstein only managed 16 reps, while Iowa G/T Andrew Donnal and Alabama OT Austin Shepherd were both stuck at 17. Meanwhile, offensive linemen who do not appear to have lifted roday include LT Andrus Peat of Stanford and OGs Tre Jackson of Florida State and Alabama’s Arie Kouandjio.
