Horns LB Jefferson one of three to enter draft … Another ‘no surprise here’ as Texas junior All-America ILB Malik Jefferson has confirmed his intention to bypass his final year of college eligibility and enter the 2018 draft. The 6-2, 240-pound Jefferson is a second-day prospect for this year’s draft after racking up 110 tackles this fall including 4 sacks and 6 other tackles for loss. Jefferson is one of three underclassmen to have announced today along with star Penn State RB Saquon Barkley. Also declaring today were Wisconsin CB Nick Nelson and North Carolina ILB Andre Smith. Nelson is a 5-10, 205-pounder who lacks explosive recovery speed, but is quick and instinctive and also has pretty good ball skills. Meanwhile, Smith barely played this fall after suffering a knee injury early in the campaign, but did rack up 113 tackles in 2016. Both Nelson and Smith are considered to be mid-to-late round prospects. Underclassmen have until January 15th to file paperwork with the NFL in order to be eligible for the upcoming draft.
