Bucs cut mcCown

February 11, 2015

Bucs release vet QB … In a somewhat surprising move that could have implications for the 2015 draft, Tampa Bay has released veteran QB Josh McCown, the Buccaneers’ nominal starter at the position. Needless to say the release of McCown has led to some early speculation that the move in another indication that the Buccaneers are likely to select a QB – presumably either Jameis Winston of Florida State or Oregon’s Marcus Mariota – with the #1 pick overall at this year’s draft. What makes the Bucs’ move surprising is that the buzz to date has been that Tampa Bay would look to trade 3rd-year QB Mike Glennon if the drafted one of the QBs and keep the veteran McCown around to tutor the new young gun. Stay tuned.
