SMU QB enters draft … Southern Methodist QB Matt Davis has opted to enter the 2017 draft rather than continue to pursue a 6th year of eligibility through the NCAA after he missed all or most of both the 2012 and 2016 seasons because of injuries. This past season, for example, Davis tore an ACL after playing in the Mustangs’ season opener. Davis originally signed with Texas A&M, but left after the 2013 season and ultimately ended up at SMU where he was a reasonably productive dual-threat QB who passed for over 3,000 yards in his career while running for another 1,500 yards. At 6-0, 212, though, with at best an average arm, Davis is not considered to be more than a fringe draft prospect, but might get some free agent looks at a different position.
