Browns take QB Osweiller off Texans hands … In a move that nobody saw coming, Houston has traded QB Brock Osweiller, a 2nd round pick in 2018 and a 6th round pick (#188) originally acquired from Chicago to Cleveland in exchange for a 4th round pick (#142) this year. Houston signed Osweiller away from Denver in a big free agent deal last spring, but he never played up to the contract. What the deal does for the Texans is free up some cap space, perhaps to sign or trade for Tony Romo. Meanwhile, Cleveland is not expected to keep Osweiller; the Browns have the cap space to absorb the cap hit for releasing him one year into a big deal that Houston did not have. What Cleveland gets out of the deal is the future #2 pick that they could use as a part of a package to pry Jimmy Garoppolo away form New England. In fact, Cleveland now has two extra #2s in 2018 after picking up Philadelphia’s in the draft-day deal for the 2nd pick overall last year. Stay tuned.
