NC QB enters draft

Clemson QB Watson enters draft after NC win … Talk about going out on top! In the aftermath of last night’s dramatic 35-31 national championship upset win over Alabama in which he threw for over 400 yards and 4 scores including the game-winner with 0:01 left on the clock, Clemson junior QB DeShaun Watson announced he will be entering the 2017 draft. Watson is generally considered to be one of the top 2-3 QB prospects for the upcoming draft, although there are teams that are concerned that he lacks prototype pocket QB arm strength and mechanics. And while its not clear Watson answered any of those questions last night, he certainly checked off all the boxes in the column of toughness, leadership and intangibles as he stood in the face of one of the fiercest rushes ever in college football for 60 minutes and never lost his poise or focus. Indeed, for much of the night the question was whether Watson would simply be able to finish the game much less lead three scoring drives in the final quarter. Meanwhile, the NFL is still waiting for official confirmation from other Clemson juniors WR Mike Williams and RB Wayne Gallman about their intentions to join Watson in this year’s draft, although both are assumed to be in after they participated in the Tigers’ senior day festivities at the end of the regular. Of course, the NFL is also still waiting to hear from the underclassmen believed to be thinking of entering the draft including junior LT Cam Robinson and sophomore CB Marlon Humphrey, both of whom are considered to be the best at their respective positions.
