Underclassmen update

January 4, 2017

More underclassmen enter draft … Been a bit under the weather this day but the show must go on. Indeed, a number of prominent underclassmen announced today that they will be entering this year’s draft including star DEs Carl Lawson of Auburn and Stanford’s Solomon Thomas, both of whom are considered to be first-round prospects. Lawson, for example, is one of the most explosive edge rushers in college football who had all the look of a top ten talent, but he missed much of the 2014 and 2015 seasons with injuries; however, he bounced back healthy this fall during which he had 9.5 sacks and has the physical ability to blow up the combine if his health checks out. For his part, Thomas is a rising draft star who scouts weren’t sure was going to enter the draft. Not that he is in though, Thomas is a guy to watch in this year’s loaded DE class as he has tremendous upside; he’s a solid 6-3, 275-pounder who is very quick off the snap and plays with outstanding leverage. Meanwhile, others to enter this year’s draft include LBs Raekwon McMillan of Ohio State and Florida’s Alex Anzalone and enigmatic Texas A&M WR Speedy Noil. At the same time, Ohio State junior QB J. T. Barrett has announced that he will be returning to Columbus for his senior season next fall. Here is the full list of underclassmen to have indicated in one way or another that they will be entering the 2017 draft.
