NFL to allow underclassmen one more draft options

September 27, 2016

NFL to allow underclassmen one more draft option … Unfortunately we have been somewhat indisposed the past 36 hours or so – something about an allergic reaction to some meds – and have fallen a little bit behind on the news. One thing of note that hasn’t received a ton of attention is the fact that the NFL announced a new wrinkle for underclassmen looking at future drafts. Starting this March, underclassmen who are thinking of potentially leaving school early for the 2018 draft will be allowed to participate in their schools’ pro day this spring. NFL teams then can keep scouting those players as if they were already draft-eligible during the 2017 season. Each college team will be allowed to have 5 such underclassmen participate in their pro day, although schools will be allowed more slots if the additional players are deemed to be legitimate draft prospects which can be an issue at schools like Alabama and Ohio State which sometimes appear to have nothing but legitimate draft prospects on their roster.
