8th round numbers

September 8, 2015

By the numbers: how the ‘8th round of the 2015 draft’ fared … NFL teams continue to tinker with the rosters they will have when the regular season gets underway this weekend, but the early returns suggest that 2015 draft was a pretty good one for players who went undrafted this past spring. Indeed, as of midnight last night, 57 undrafted rookie free agents were still on an NFL roster. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of back records when the GBN was redesigned, but when compared to the years we still have have (2011 and before), this year’s figure was one of the highest in history. In comparison, back in the latter part of the last decade, for example, the number of rookie agents making an opening day roster was seldom over 40. In fact, this year, 27 of the 32 teams kept at least one undrafted rookie agent. Chicago leads the way with with 5 undrafted rookie free agents on the roster, while Dallas, Miami, and San Diego each have 4. Here’s the full, updated list of undrafted rookie free agents by team.
