QB Buzz

March 19, 2015

As the QB turns … Multiple league sources are reporting that Cleveland offered at least somebody the 19th pick in this year’s draft for veteran QB Sam Bradford. Bradford was ultimately traded from St. Louis to Philadelphia last week. What isn’t totally clear is whether the Browns offered the pick to St. Louis before the deal or to Philadelphia afterwards, although its possible they could have actually made the offer to both. However, St. Louis wanted to get a veteran QB to replace and the got Nick Foles from the Eagles, whereas the Browns had nothing to offer in that regard. What it all suggests is that the elephant in the room for the 2015 draft – do either Cleveland es somebody make a bold move up to get Oregon QB Marcus Mariota – isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Indeed, if the Browns really want Bradford is there that much of a difference between the 12th and 19th picks. Meanwhile, if the Eagles could pry the 12th pick from the Browns would that be enough combined with the 20th pick to move up into the top 10 if Mariota came into that range. The other QB related story – which we talked about during last night’s GBN Radio Blog show – involves the evolving situation in San Diego where long-time QB Phillip Rivers has for all intents and purposes told the Chargers that he intends to play out his contract and give free agency a shot in 2016. And while its hard to imagine Rivers playing anywhere else, the Chargers have been paying a ton of attention to Mariota and could be tempted to move on from Rivers while the moving on is still good. Stay tuned!
