More on Bucs decision with top pick … A little more from Tampa Bay’s press conference earlier this this morning at which the Buccaneers’s brass wouldn’t quite give away what the team will do with the top pick, but hinted that the slot if Florida State QB Jameis Winston’s to lose. Bucs head coach Lovie Smith went to some lengths to make the case that the Buccaneers would be comfortable making Winston the face of his franchise and that the franchise was at least ‘okay’ with where he was character wise right now despite the character red flags out there which have dogged his status. Smith, in particular, stressed that Winston was never charged for the most serious issue, a sexual assault allegation, and that he was cleared by an independent student ethics investigation. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay G.M. Jason Licht indicated that while there is still due diligence to be done, the Buccaneers have a pretty good idea who they would choose with the top pick everything else being equal. Licht also indicated that it was the Bucs plan to keep the pick, although they would listen to offers.
