PACKERS trade out and T.J. WATT goes to the RAIDERS at 30. Clearly THOMPSON was not hot on JJ’s younger brother. THOMPSON must have a cluster of players he considers about the same from about 24 to 35. RAEKWON McMILLAN/ILB, KEWVIN KING/CB, CHIDOBE AWUZIE/CB, DUKE RILEY/LB, FORREST LAMP/OL are names that stand out to me when they pick, unless they trade back again with someone for extra picks on Friday morning.
Good overall job by BROWNS not pouting or panicking when TRUBISKY was grabbed by BEARS. They end up with GARRETT/ER, JABRILL PEPPERS/SS/RS & DAVID NJOKU/TE. Good start after only 1 Round. And they still have extra Picks.
The spirit of AL DAVIS lives on in Oakland with the selection of GAREON CONLEY/CB who may be facing rape charges in the near future. Calculated risk by REGGIE McKENZIE. Perhaps he felt emboldened because of signing LYNCH just a day ago. Most organizations were running away from this kid and his legal situation.
I’m still anxious to see who gets up the guts to take JOE MIXON/RB on Friday night. But I’m a little surprised that DALVIN COOK slipped completely out of the First Round. Bad shoulders and some bad off-field issues did him in for now. Round 2… probably.
DaSHONE KIZER/Notre Dame is clearly the next QB to come off the Board, but to whom and how soon? In my heart of hearts I’m thinking that BRIAN KELLY would like to say, ‘I told you so’.
We knew it wasn’t a banner year for elite OL, but with only BOLLES & RAMCZYK being selected it could at least be labeled as surprising, tho not shocking.
The two biggest surprises to me were 3 WR in the first 9 Picks as well as trade ups so that 3 QB went in the Top 12. Anybody who says they thought 3 QB were worthy of Top 12 selection back in January is full of it!
8 DB in Round 1, in what I still project to be a Draft that will set a new record for total number of DB taken by the time we get to Pick 253.
My biggest reach of the night, from a purely value standpoint, was probably TACO CHARLTON to Dallas at Pick 28. This young man was not a first rounder in my book.
The TITANS really picked up some explosive players in WR/COREY DAVIS & ADOREE’ JACKSON/CB/RS. The team needed some play makers and look to have gotten them.
We are already hearing the brave talk from the teams that took the 3 First Round QB that none of them will be expected to start right away this coming September. TRUBISKY can learn a while behind MIKE GLENNON. Ditto MAHOMES behind SMITH & Watson behind SAVAGE. Brave talk in April, but not as easy to say if the vets don’t get their teams off to good starts in September.
