Couple of runs we didn’t note first thru the DL heats. Illinois tweener Carroll Phillips ran a 4.64 40 with a 1.64 split. Same story for Youngstown State tweener Derek Rivers who was even quicker with a 4.61 time and a 1.61 split, while Utah’s Pita Taumoepenu broke the 4.7 mark (4.67) in the 40 with a 1.66 split. Meanwhile, Pitt’s Ejuan Price’s 40 time was nothing special at 4.84, but his 1.66 was okay. Among the DTs, UCLA’s Eddie Vanderdoes ran an impressive 5-flat 40 with a quick enough 1.74 split. Oklahoma’s Charles Walker (4.96; 1.75) also ran well, although his off-field issues remain to be sorted out. Elijah Qualls of Washington (5.13) and Oklahoma State’s Vince Taylor (5.16, 1.79) also ran in the 5.15 range. Meanwhile, Notre Dame tweener Ike Rochell ran under 4.9 (4.89) with a quick 1.72 split.
