Cuts deadline passes; several picks listed

Cuts deadline passes; several picks listed … All teams got down to today’s 80-man roster limit. And, as expected, so far no 2022 draft picks have been released in the early rounds of cuts, but several players selected in this year’s drafted were were put on one of the league’s several reserve lists. In fact, Detroit listed two top picks in WR Jameson Williams and DE Josh Paschal who were selected in the first and second rounds respectively.  Williams, the 12th player selected this past April, for example, was placed on the Non-Football-Injury (NFI) list as hecontinues to rehab from the torn ACL he suffered in last year’s college national championship game. Meanwhile, Paschal was placed on the Physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list as re recovers from off-season surgery to repair a sports hernia injury. Both will now miss at least the first four games, but can be activated at any time after that, although truth be told the Lions don’t expect to see much of Williams for awhile. Elsewhere, Houston placed WR John Metchie on NFI as he also rehabs from a torn ACL incurred late last season at Alabama, while, as expected, Carolina placed QB Matt Corral on season-ending Injured Reserve (IR) as a result of a foot injury suffered last weekend. At the same time, the Giants placed promising 6th round LB Darian Beavers on IR after he tore an ACL this week. In fact, Beavers is the second Giants pick to go an IR as G/T Marcus McKethan, a 5th round choice, was also placed on IR with knee injury earlier this month. Of course, there’s more to come for this year’s rookie class as all teams now have to make their big cuts down to the 53-man opening day roster limit by 4 PM ET next Tuesday.
