Redskins trade for Panthers QB NOT named Newton

Redskins trade for Panthers QB NOT named Newton … After Carolina made the switch at QB signing free agent Teddy Bridgewater away from division-rival New Orleans and giving incumbent starter Cam Newton permission to seek a trade, one of the first teams to reportedly kick Newton’s tires was Washington. In the end, the Redskins have acquired a veteran QB from the Panthers, its just not Newton. Instead, the Redskins have acquired Kyle Allen from the Panthers in exchange for a 5th round pick, the 148th overall, in next month’s draft. Hard to know what this means for what the Redskins are currently planning for the 2nd pick overall at the upcoming draft. There have been rumblings that there was an element in the Washington organization that was less than enamored with Dwayne Haskins, the nominal Redskins starter who was selected in the middle of the opening round of last year’s draft, and that they were considering taking Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa at that spot. However, unless they have somewhere to move Haskins, it would seem unlikely that the Redskins would have brought Allen to compete with both Haskins and a new rookie candidate.
