Before I get back into Team Mocks I want to post a list of players who I do not see getting the luv they deserve… IMO. I want to get it up now because several names on this list have suddenly gotten some mention in the media this past week. The list is a week old in my notebook and I want it out there in print before even more of these guys get press elsewhere.

DeVANTE BAUSBY/CB/PITTSBURGH STATE/6’2/180 Good athlete who showed well @ Medal of Honor Game. Has the size and instincts to give it a run.

HENRY COLEY/ILB/VIRGINIA/6’2/245 A 4.95/40 tells you why no luv, but he has a high FBI and makes lots of plays. Deserves a shot in Training Camp.

JAMIL COOKS/ER/ALCORN STATE/6’4/239 Small school guy who had a solid Pro Day and could sooth the pain for a team that doesn’t get a premier Edge Rusher early on.

ERICK DARGAN/SS/OREGON/5’11/210 Can’t believe he’s an after-thought given how productive he was as a senior starter. Led team, in INT & tackles. Special Team ace.

AARON DAVIS/LB/COLORADO STATE/6’0/225 As one scout said, “If he were bigger everyone would want him’. Active, hustling player who makes a ton of tackles. Special Teams ace.

ANDRE DAVIS/WR/USF/6’1/207 A good athlete who got caught on a bad Offense on a bad team. Caught some eyes at SHRINE venue.

NICK EASTON/OC/HARVARD/6’3/300 Strong (29 reps) effective player from top small school program. Best Crimson OC since MATT BIRK.

ANTOINE EVERETT/OG/McNEESE STATE/6’2/325 His 5.75/40 scares some people off but he can move in a phone booth and ties people up at line of scrimmage. Could be a find for a power running O like RAVENS.

DONIEL GAMBRELL/OT/NOTRE DAME COLLEGE/6’6/315 Small school star whose personal story should make you a fan. Will need time & work, but could be worth it. Natural athlete.

COREY GRANT/RB/AUBURN/5’11/205 Big time recruit who left ‘Bama but couldn’t stay on the field for Tigers. Explosive KR guy. Ran 4.3 or faster @ Pro Day.

JOHN HARRIS/WR/TEXAS/6’2/218 Couldn’t earn a job for MACK BROWN’s staff but exploded for Charlie Strong. Caught 68 balls as senior. Impact receiver. Gets open & snatches balls.

WARREN HERRING/DT/WISCONSIN/6’3/294 Above average athlete who saw limited rotation time for Badgers. 35″ vert gives you idea of athleticism. Could be 4-3 DT, pocket pressure guy.

KALEB JOHNSON/OG/RUTGERS/6’4/300 34 reps at Pro Day. Strong, steady vet lineman who can pass pro and really get after it in run game. Has to be on PATS radar.

CAUSHAUD LYONS/DE/TUSCULUM/6’5/295 Long, athletic guy who posted a Pro Day 4.90/40. Showed flashes at Medal of Honor Game and is worth a developmental look. DE in either 3-4/4-3 schemes.

GREG MANCZ/OC/G/TOLEDO/6’4/301 Steady, veteran leader who tore his labrum at a Shrine practice in January. 10″ hands. Played in pass-happy MAC. Versatile, team leader.

JAMES O’SHAUGHNESSY/TE/ILLINOIS STATE/6’4/245 Prototype TE prospect who caught attention in FCS Championship run. Rising up Draft Boards as I write this. 4.68/40.

NICK PERRY/FS/ALABAMA/6’1/205 Got lost in all the pub for CLINTON-DIX & COLLINS the past few years. Savvy player who covers up for others’ mistakes & gambles. Instinctive.

CASEY PIERCE/TE/KENT STATE/6’4/244 Got some attention after a solid week of work at Senior Bowl. Very good hands and run after catch ability. Not a blocker… yet.

EDMOND ROBINSON/OLB/NEWBERRY/6’3/245 Was invited to Shrine Game and the Combine. Raw but very athletic and aggressive. 34″ arms, 10 1/4″ hands & long legs. 4.61/40.

DeANDRE SMELTER/WR/GEORGIA TECH/6’2/226 Tore ACL late in season. Has 11″ hands. Tough to bring down after catch. Raw because TECH never passes, but is exceptional athlete. First college sport choice was baseball. Competes hard.

HAROLD SPEARS/TE/UNH/6’4/252 One of those basketball turned footballer types. Doesn’t block much but can get open and catch with his hands.

OWEN SPENCER/WR/OHIO STATE/6’2/208 Got lost in the talent shuffle & coaching change for Buckeyes. Does all the dirty work like blocking and Special Teams. Worth a long look.

BRIAN SUITE/S/UTAH STATE/6’3/203 A very productive, hard working athlete who put together a solid senior season leading the secondary. MIght have pro upside.

CEDRIC THOMPSON/FS/MINNESOTA/6’0/208 Has played CB & S for Gophers. 4.50/40 along with a 40.5” vertical. Strong (21 reps) and likes to hit.Decent cover skills.

BRIAN VOGLER/TE/ALABAMA/6’7/263 GIant sized guy who can do a lot of things. Big hands and long arms provide his QB with a large target area. Can block some.

DARYL WAUD/DT/WESTERN (CAN)/6’5/295 Could be a star in he CFL but might show enough in Camp to get an NFL shot. Shrine participant who held his own. Smart kid.

TERRELL WATSON/RB/AZUSA PACIFIC/6’2/240 Hard charging between the tackles runner. MOP of NFLPA game. Not OKOYE, but did barrel his way to 63 TD in 3 years.

BRANDON WEGHER/RB/MORNINGSIDE/5’10/210 Another kid who made an early splash for Hawkeyes but left program. Dominated lower level with 2000 yard season and could fight for back-up spot with Special Teams attitude to spare.

I don’t expect even half of these guys to get drafted, but given the world of he NFL I see most of them in Training Camps come July. Size issues, small school syndrome, etc make it a challenge to even get a shot at pro football for many, but every year undrafted players fill out Camp rosters and some make the big time. Potential can be a 4-letter word to scouts, but it is tough to ignore. Some teams, like the Packers & Seahawks, take guys like these and develop them into NFL players.
