Top pick has rocky start in pro debut … It probably wasn’t the start to his pro career that he was hoping for as Carolina’s Bryce Young, the first player selected overall at the 2023, struggled in his first NFL live action earlier this afternoon in the Panthers rather dismal 27-0 home loss to the NY Jets. Young played the Panthers first three series during which he completed 4 of 6 passes but for just 21 yards while also taking a sack. And during those three series the Panthers had only a total of 16 yards on 11 plays with just one first down. To be fair to Young, though, he was under intense pressure from the Jets’ every time he dropped back to pass. In that game, Jets’ DE Will McDonald, their first round pick this past April, had a sack. At the same time, Indianapolis’ Anthony Richardson, the 4th player taken this year, also made his pro debut this afternoon in the Colts’ 23-19 loss to the Bills in Buffalo. Richardson completed 7 of 12 passes for 67 yards, but had a pick. And in that game Bills’ DB Damar Hamlin, who almost died during a game last year, continued his remarkable recovery as he saw his first game action since that night against the Colts.
