To QB or not to QB, that is the question … Don’t think NFL quarterbacks were exactly what Shakespeare was thinking about when he penned that iconic soliloquy – or at least something close to it – back in the 17th century, but it just may be close as there appears to be a raging debate, or at least a disconnect, in how the league views the top QBs for the 2025 draft. And let’s face it; how this gets resolved will have a huge impact on how the opening round, and perhaps beyond, evolves this coming April. On the one, there is something of an assumption that the top QBs – Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward of Miami – will almost certainly go 1-2 on April 24th. The chatter out of both Tennessee and Cleveland, which currently have those two top picks, is whether the Titans and/or Browns should take one of Sanders or Ward themselves or trade down for a passel of picks to hopefully jumpstart a major rebuild of the their respective franchise’s overall talent base. Then there are the NY Giants and Las Vegas, both of whom desperately need an upgrade at the position, bemoaning the fact that they won ‘meaningless’ late season games to drop out of the top two picks. Same for New England, which had visions of trading down from the #1 pick for a package of picks from one of those QB-needy teams, before they too won their season-finale against Buffalo’s B and C teams to drop to the 4th pick. At the same time, though, there is a rather loud counter narrative that is at least seriously questioning whether either Sanders or Ward, or both, are really worth a top-2 pick. Time will tell. Gonna be a very interesting draft process so buckle up!!
