There is a kind of hush around the NFL

February 18, 2024

There’s a kind of hush all over the league … With the Super Bowl in the books it has been kind of quiet around the NFL the past week. However, don’t be confused by the apparent calm as there is a lot going on behind closed doors. In fact, most teams would have taken the week before the Super Bowl off to give their scouting staffs a break, but will have regathered in their war rooms to put the final touches on their pre-combine boards and identify the players they want to target with interviews at the combine which gets underway a week Monday in Indianapolis. Meanwhile, the start of the new football year is now just over three weeks away – it officially kicks off March 13th – but the window to tag franchise and transition players actually opens this Tuesday.

And while we are at it just a couple of other notes. Re the combine, this weekend a second player agency announced that they were recommending to the players they represent attending the combine that they not take any intelligence or cognitive type tests. Not that they necessarily have any problem with the test themselves, but in the past results – often incomplete – have leaked out. On the other hand, with the combine looming on the horizon and the actual draft now less than 70 days away, there really isn’t much buzz at all out there. The one storyline that does has been circulating is that there  that there is perhaps more than one team across the league that has Michigan QB JJ McCarthy ranked among the top 10 on their 2024 board, although we also caution that this is the smoke and mirrors season and we haven’t yet seen any concrete confirmation of those rumblings. Stay tuned!
