The Turk is on the prowl … It is cut-down day in the NFL as all teams have to be down to the league-mandated 53-man opening day roster by 4 PM ET this afternoon. In fact, most teams have already released some players, but the vast majority of cuts are still to come. We’ll be following all the wire transactions on this day with a special emphasis on how this year’s rookie class is faring as well as any trades involving future draft picks. Of course, the player cuts are only part of the process to get teams ready for the start of the season next week. Players who are released prior to the deadline can be claimed off waivers until Noon ET on Sunday. Then starting at 1 PM ET on Sunday, teams can begin to sign their practice squads which this year have been increased to 16 players up from 12. New this year too is the fact that each week teams can protect up to 4 players on their practice squads from being claimed by other teams. Also note this year that game day rosters have been increased to a total of 55 players who are available and 48 who can be dressed. Stay tuned!
