The ‘other’ draft comes into focus … Why you might ask will we be watching with more than a little interest this evening when Ohio of the Mid-American Conference plays at Miami of Ohio (7:30 PM ET; ESPN2). In part, we’ll be watching because rising Ohio QB Kurtis Rourke is a Canadian. In fact, he’s the brother of Nathan Rourke, another former Ohio QB who has taken the CFL by storm this season and will be leading his BC Lions into Winnipeg to play the Blue Bombers in a Canadian league semi-final game on Sunday. It also won’t be a surprise if Nathan ends up in an NFL training camp this coming August. So could Kurtis, who’s 6-4, 220, is a good athlete with over 200 rushing yards, and has plenty of arm talent. Indeed, Rourke has averaged over 300 passing yards per game this fall, while completing 69% of his pass attempts including 21 for scores against just 4 picks. However, Rourke, who has a year of eligibility remaining, is very likely auditioning not so much for NFL scouts, but for Power 5 college teams that will be looking for a transfer to replace their starter at QB next fall in what is the ‘new’ world of college football.
