Texans close again; still inch closer to securing top pick … For the second week in a row, Houston gave one of the NFL’s best team all it could handle, but for the second week in row came up just short. Last week, the Texans took Dallas down to the wire; this week they took Kansas City into overtime, but a fumble deep in their own end set up a game-winning TD for the Chiefs. As a result, the Texans record drops to 1-12-1 and leaves them with a magic number of 2 to clinch the first overall pick in the 2023 draft with three weeks to go in the regular season. However, what happens in the rest of the top ten in the selection order for next year’s draft won’t be determined until after the late afternoon game between Denver and Arizona. A win by Denver and Chicago, which lost to Philadelphia this afternoon, would move up to the 2nd pick. A loss by the Broncos, though, and Seattle with a pick from Denver, would stick at #2 for another week, with the Bears staying at #3.
