Staying in school

Pair of QBs, Duke safety opt to return for 2021 … A pair of pretty well-known college QBs have indicated that they will be taking advantage of the NCAA’s “free season waiver” and will return for the 2021 season including Charlie Brewer of Baylor and McKenzie Milton of Central Florida. Both, though, will transfer and play elsewhere next fall. Brewer was a 4-year starter with Baylor where he lead the Bears to last year’s Sugar Bowl. Meanwhile, Milton, who goes by the nickname ‘KZ’ is one of the more interesting stories in college football. He was a rising star at CFU where he was a two-time top 10 Heisman finalist, but he suffered what some have described as the worst football knee injury ever late in the 2018 season. Indeed, the consensus was that Milton, who tore an artery and had extensive nerve damage in the knee, would never play again; in fact, he was lucky just to still be able to walk. But thanks to the wonders of modern medicine and an absolutely grueling rehab regimen, Milton was back with UCF this fall where he worked with the scout team. When he announced over the weekend that he was looking to transfer, several big-time programs responded including Florida State. And that’s where Milton will go for the 2021 season, although he won’t be guaranteed a starting job. Meanwhile, Duke safety Marquis Waters, a decent third day prospect who had over 200 career tackles for the Blue Devils, has also indicated that he will take advantage of the “free season” waiver and return for the 2021 season, although like the QBs he will transfer and play elsewhere.
