Sooner QB Mayfield gets extra year … Oklahoma non-junior QB Baker Mayfield, the 4th place finisher in last year’s Heisman Trophy race, has been granted an extra year of eligibility with the Sooners by the conference. Earlier this week, faculty athletic representatives from the 10 Big 12 schools opted not to change a rule that forced Mayfield to use a year of eligibility after transferring from Texas Tech in 2014 despite the fact he was not on scholarship with the Red Raiders. However, they voted today to allow intraconference transfers that did not receive a written scholarship offer from their original school move to another school within the conference without losing a year of athletic eligibility.
