So just how good is the upcoming draft class? … By this time tomorrow evening, all 32 NFL teams will have opened their 2026 training camps. And come Saturday, NCAA teams will start opening their fall camps ahead of their schedules getting underway by the end of the first weekend in September. In that context, ESPN has an interesting article up this week asking whether the 2027 draft class is indeed as good as advertised. Of course in the end only time will tell, although it’s also pretty clear, at least on paper, that this year’s draft class is better – and in many ways much better – than the version that took place this past April. The QBs are better, the WRs are better, the OTs are better, the edge rushers are better and the corners are better. And those are the premium draft positions and clearly the strengths of the 2027 field. The one major caveat we would note at this time, though, is that almost all of this year’s top prospects will have eligibility remaining after the 2026 campaign so nobody is going to know for sure who’s actually going to be available until all the top guys have made their draft intentions known. The 2026 draft, for example, would have been looked on more favorably had QBs like Dante Moore of Oregon and Texas’ Arch Manning, who were eligible to turn pro this winter, declared for April’s draft. Time will tell.
