Senior Bowl practice reviews starting to leak out

Senior Bowl practice reviews starting to leak out … The lights have pretty much gone out in Mobile as just about anybody who is anybody in the sport hightailed it out of town as the curtain came down on the final practice earlier this afternoon. Fact is, very few NFL types hang around for Saturday’s actual game; they’ll all get the game tape and there has been a long-held truism about the Senior Bowl that, at least as far as the NFL goes, the practices are far more important than the game itself. And while we wait for GBN Associate Editor Pigskin Paul Guilemette’s final practice report that hopefully will be posted later this evening, there are a couple of other synopsis reviews of the week’s practices worth noting. Most notably, the NFL Network has an article listing the biggest winners from this week’s practice sessions. We say notably, as the first two guys listed in the nfl.com report – Notre Dame WR Chase Claypool and Oklahoma DT Neville Gallimore – are both Canadians. That list also includes South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw, who by all accounts, really helped himself this week with a dominant performance, although he may be forced to skip Saturday’s game after being dinged late in practice today. Among others noted by the nfl.com article are Ohio State WR KJ Hill and Houston OT Josh Jones, both of whom have been prominently mentioned in dispatches all week. Others who appear to have strong weeks in Mobile, at least based on the number of props they received over the week, include Michigan ER Josh Uche, DIII St. John’s G/T Ben Bartch, Appalachian State LB Akeem Davis-Gaither, and WRs Van Jefferson of Florida and Baylor’s Denzel Mims. The Senior Bowl’s top two QBs – Justin Herbert of Oregon and Utah State’s Jordan Love – also both reportedly more than held serve. Both impressed with their arm strength and overall athleticism, although if one goes by the whispers from NFL sources, Love may have been the slightly more impressive.
