Senior Bowl announces coaches … The Senior Bowl announced this morning that Chicago Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy and Las Vegas Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham will be the head coaches for this year’s game which is scheduled for February 4th in Mobile. In addition, Atlanta QB coach Charles London will be Getsy’s offensive co-ordinator while New England defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington will be the defensive co-ordinator. For Graham, New Orleans QB Coach Ronald Curry will be the OC, while Pittsburgh DB coach Grady Brown will act as DC.
The coaching format is a major change this year as in the past the Senior Bowl teams were each coached by a full NFL staffs usually made up of two teams with high draft picks and extant staffs. This year, though, the NFL assigned the two full staffs to the Shrine game in Las Vegas and in the future will rotate between the two games. Under the new arrangement up-and-coming NFL coaches will get the star game assignment to promote their professional development. They will be nominated by head coaches and general managers from non-playoff teams and will be selected by a group comprised of league office executives, representatives from the General Managers Advisory Committee, and Senior Bowl leadership.
