Season over, onto the nesxt

February 9, 2025

Season over, season begins … With Philadelphia’s impressive win over two-time defending champion Kansas City in last night’s Super Bowl in new Orleans, the 2024 season is now formally in the books. For the record, the Eagles will now have the 32nd pick in every round this coming April, while the Chiefs will have the 31st pick. There also won’t be much down time for personnel people around the league. In fact, most teams gave their scouting staffs the week off last week to recharge after a hectic few weeks that included the all-star games, the college football playoffs, as well as the other bowl games. But they’ll be getting back to their respective war rooms in the next little while to stack their preliminary value boards and identify which players they want to focus on at the scouting combine, which is just a couple of weeks away, as well as on the pro day circuit which gets underway early next month. The combine will run from February 24th to March 2nd in Indianapolis with the on-field testing over the final 4 dates. Of course, we’re also basically a month away from the start of the new football year which formally begins on March 12th when teams again can make trades and start to sign free agents, although in the latter case there is a three-day window prior to that during which teams can talk with potential free agents.
