Seahawks get Clowney, Texans not much in big deal

Seahawks get Clowney; Texans not so much in big deal … There were rumblings around the NFL that Houston and Seattle were deep in talks about a trade involving star Texans’ DE Jadeveon Clowney who was holding out after being franchised. And those rumblings proved to be true as the Seattle have indeed acquired Clowney, the #1 player picked at the 2014 draft who has emerged as one of the league’s better pass rushers over the past couple of years. In return, Houston gets veteran DEs Barkevious Mingo and Jake Martin, as well as a 3rd round pick in 2020.Bottom line is the Texans didn’t get much for one of the best young players in the league. Mingo was a high draft pick – he was the 6th pick overall by Cleveland in 2013 – who never lived up to expectations. Indeed, Mingo has just 10 career sacks in 6 seasons in the league, but never more than two in any year since his rookie campaign when he had 5. In fact, there were rumors that he was actually about to get released by the Seahawks after a so-so preseason following a one-sack season last year. At the same time, Martin was a sixth-round pick last year who had three sacks as a rookie.
