Rumor that Dolphins targeting top pick

January 16, 2020

Rumor that Dolphins targeting top pick … With the 2020 draft now just 98 days away the thinking around the NFL has been that Cincinnati was pretty much locked in on LSU QB Joe Burrow for the #1 overall pick this year. However, there is a rumor making the rounds that Miami could make a serious offer to move and take over the top spot. According to the rumor, which is totally unconfirmed, Miami would give the Bengals something in the order of the 5th and 18th picks overall in this year’s opening round, along with their 2nd rounder – #39 overall – as well first and third round picks in 2021. Of course, for any such deal to go down, Cincinnati would have to be willing to give up on a shot at Burrow in favor of multiple picks and there are no guarantees that will ultimately be the case. Indeed, both Bengals’ offensive coordinator Brian Callahan and his quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, who are getting ready for next week’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, had good things to say on the team’s website about Burrow. Callahan, for example, has already viewed every snap of LSU’s magical season and says Burrow is every bit as good “as advertised” while Van Pelt was quoted as saying Burrow “definitely checks off a lot of boxes early on in the evaluation process; he looks like a very intriguing guy.” We also have to remember that we are now in the season of smoke and mirrors and somebody could be circulating the rumor just to see what shakes out. It also raises the question whether Miami would also be willing to move up from the 5th pick to say the 2nd or 3rd selections to assure acquiring Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa if nothing happens with Cincinnati. Stay tuned guys, we are just getting started!
