QB decisions impacting early selection order

QB decisions impacting early selection order … A couple of teams sitting on very early picks in the current selection order for the first round of the 2021 draft have made moves at QB. Jacksonville, which would have the 2nd pick overall were the draft held this week, for example, will reportedly start veteran backup Mike Glennon on Sunday against Cleveland. Glennon replaces rookie Jake Luton, who had replaced an injured Garrett Minshew and had shown some early promise, but was intercepted four times in last week’s dismal loss against Pittsburgh. Somewhat ironically, Minshew, who missed the past three games with a thumb injury, could play if needed, but the Jaguars have apparently decided, at least for the moment to stick with the backups. Meanwhile, Cincinnati will reportedly give the start to veteran Brandon Allen over Ryan Finley when they host the Giants on Sunday. The Bengals, who would pick 3rd were the draft to be held this week, are still reeling from the devastating loss of QB Joe Burrow last weekend. In fact, Allen wasn’t even on the Bengals’ active roster until Monday as he spent the first 10 weeks of the schedule on the practice squad, but he did start several games for Denver in 2019.
