QB changes could impact early draft order … Two of the three teams in the chase for the top pick at the 2018 draft made rather dramatic moves at QB yesterday which could shake up the way the top three picks ultimately shake out. For those who spent the day in another universe, the Giants announced that Eli Manning will no longer be their starter ending his 210-straight starting streak. Instead the Giants will turn the ball over to journeyman Geno Smith and also give snaps to rookie Davis Webb, the team’s 3rd round pick this past April. And while there already wasn’t much doubt that the Giants were planning on taking a QB with their first round pick this coming April, the benching of Manning, who now looks to be done in New York, makes that kind of move even more imperative. Meanwhile, San Francisco has promoted Jimmy Garoppolo, whom the 49ers acquired from New England in a trade earlier this year, to their starting role. On the one hand, Garoppolo would appear to be an upgrade over rookie C.J. Beathard and give them a better chance to win a couple of games down the stretch and actually move down the draft order a bit; at the same time, the 49ers will finally get a look at Garoppolo, whom they presumably traded for to be their QB of the future.
