QB carousel could impact top of draft order … It is quite possible that when the upcoming NFL kicks off this week that each of the teams currently sitting on one of the top three picks in the updated selection order for the upcoming draft could have a new starting QB. In fact, Carolina, which would have the second pick overall were the draft held this week, has already confirmed that Sam Darnold will make his first start of the season Sunday when the 3-8 Panthers host 3-7 Denver. Darnold suffered a high ankle sprain in the Panthers’ final pre-season game and hasn’t played since with Baker Mayfield and PJ Walker taking turns at the job. Meanwhile, nothing has been confirmed in Houston, but sources close to the team suggest that the Texans, who would have had the first pick overall if the draft had been held this week, could very well move on from Davis Mills who has struggled of late; he’d likely be replaced by veteran Kyle Allen when Houston plays at Miami this weekend. At the same time, Justin Fields of the Bears, who would have the 3rd pick overall this week, is being listed as day-to-day after being carted off the field with a non-throwing shoulder injury late in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta. If Fields can’t go, he’d be replaced by Trevor Siemian when the Bears play the Jets in New York. Interestingly, there are more rumors about the status of Jets’ 2nd year QB Zach Wilson after head coach Robert Saleh refused to commit starting him this weekend after their disappointing loss to the Patriots this past weekend in which Wilson completed just 9 of 22 passes and the offense scored a paltry 3 points.
