Prospect Watch Week 9 2018

October 26, 2018

Friday Oct.26 7PM/ET ESPN
MIAMI (F) (5-2) by 5 @ BOSTON COLLEGE (5-2)
Despite having the same 5-2 records this season, I think Miami clearly has the overall talent advantage. But sometimes the Hurricanes don’t play up to their own talent level, and BC has enough talent to win this game at home if the underachieving team shows up. HC MARK RICHT is still having to juggle his starting QB between ROSIER #12 and PERRY #5. The biggest issue for the Eagles is that their Offense hinges around RB A.J. DILLON #2, who is banged up and has been missing time and carries in the month of October. Loads of talent to watch here.

SAT Oct. 27 NOON/ET ABC
CLEMSON (7-0) by 9 @ FLORIDA STATE (4-3)
I am not trying to underrate DABO’s boys, with less than a double digit point differential, but FSU has enough talent to keep this in check for a while. But the Tigers DL unit is the most talented group I have seen in almost 60 years of watching college football. It is also likely that we will be watching an accelerated learning curve with Frosh QB DEXTER LAWRENCE #16 in full control. Just as an aside, the FSU schedule is brutal from now ’til season’s end, and they may not win another game this season.

CLEMSON pro prospects include:
#13 HUNTER RENFROW WR/RS 5’10/180
#28 TAVIEN FEASTER RB 5’11/220 JR
#75 MITCH HYATT OT 6’5/305 *
#99 CLELIN FERRELL DE 6’5/260 JR*
#90 DEXTER LAWRENCE DT 6’4/340 JR*
#42 CHRISTIAN WILKINS DT 6’4/300 *
#7 AUSTIN BRYANT DE 6’5/265*
#34 KENDALL JOSEPH LB 6’0/225
#2 MARK FIELDS CB 5’11/180

SEMINOLES prospects to watch:
#19 JACQUES PATRICK RB 6’3/230
#54 ALEC EBERLE OC 6’4/305
#99 BRIAN BURNS ER/OB 6’5/250 JR*
#90 DEMARCUS CHRISTMAS DT 6’4/310*
#22 ADONIS THOMAS LB 6’4/230 JR

SAT Oct. 27 3:30/ET CBS
GEORGIA (6-1) by 3 vs. FLORIDA (6-1) in JAX, FL
It is highly likely that the winner of this game has the best chance to win the SEC East and to move on to be humbled by ‘BAMA in the SEC Championship game. It is technically a neutral site game, but the Gators could almost walk there from Gainesville. Both teams have solid Defenses, with a slight edge to the Gators for their pocket pressure ability. But the Bulldogs have a decided edge on Offense. I’ll take UGA by a field goal.

Bulldogs prospects to watch for:
#4 MECOLE HARDMAN WR 5’11/185 JR*
#5 TERRY GODWIN WR 5’11/180
#53 LAMONT GAILLARD OC 6’2/310
#65 KENDALL BAKER OG 6’5/305
#13 JONATHAN LEDBETTER DE 6’4/277
#15 D’ANDRE WALKER OB 6’2/245 *
#18 DEANDRE BAKER CB 5’11/185 *

GATORS pro prospects to watch:
#25 JORDAN SCARLETT RB 5’10/215 JR
#89 TYRIE CLEVELAND WR 6’2/205 JR*
#80 C’YONTAI LEWIS TE 6’4/235
#73 MARTEZ IVEY OT 6’5/315 *
#54 KHAIRI CLARK DT 6’2/315
#96 CECE JEFFERSON DE 6’1/242
#33 DAVID REESE IB 6’0/240 JR*
#23 CHAUNCEY GARDNER-JOHNSON CB 6’0/205 JR*

SAT Oct. 27 7PM/ET PAC-12 Network
WASHINGTON STATE (6-1) by 5 @ STANFORD (5-2)
The loser here is likely out of the PAC 12 North running. When it comes to football, I have decided that MIKE LEACH is a ‘beautiful mind’. He calls his plays from memory and gets more, with less talent, than any coach I can think of. DAVID SHAW is a solid leader, and builder of men, but in his world of Offense, strawberry is an exotic flavor of ice cream. BRYCE LOVE has been hobbled by ankle/foot injuries and without him, their run game is almost non-existent. IF LEACH can get just a couple of first half TD’s it may be too much for Stanford to overcome.
PS. Those of you East of the Rockies will have a hard time finding this telecast. Try your smart phone apps.
