Post-cut rookie transactions … As we noted when yesterday’s roster deadline passed, people shouldn’t get too comfy as there was still likely to be a lot of roster tweaking around the league before the actual games kicked off next week. And several of those moves to day involved players selected at the 2021 draft. Indianapolis, for example, claimed CB Chris Wilcox, a 7th round pick who was released by Tampa Bay, yesterday, off waivers. Same for the NY Giants who claimed ER Quincy Roche off waivers from Pittsburgh; Roche had been a 6th round pick this spring. The Giants also placed DE Ellerson Smith, their 4th round pick this year, on injured reserve, meaning he could conceivably return later this season. Same story in Buffalo where the Bills placed WR Marquez Stevenson, a 6th round pick on IR, while as expected Chicago placed 2nd round OT Teven Jenkins on IR because of a back injury, while Baltimore placed WR Rashod Bateman, their first-rounder this year on late IR. Meanwhile, the dream only lasted a day for unheralded DT Forrest Merrill, who made the Chargers’ 53-man roster on deadline day, but then was released 24 hours later to make room for another player!
