Ohio State coach Meyer to retire … A bit of a shocker in college football as Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer will reportedly announce at a 2 PM press conference that he will be retiring after the Rose Bowl. Meyer will be replaced by offensive coordinator Ryan Day who did replaced Meyer earlier this year when the latter was suspended for his part in covering up domestic violence charges against one of the Buckeyes’ assistant coaches. There have been rumors that Meyer might indicate that he was going to coach one more year and then retire after the 2019 season. While the mess surrounding the domestic assault issue may have played a part in Meyer’s decision, he has also had to deal with the effects of cyst on his brain, which causes severe headaches, especially when under stress. An coaching a big-time college football program is nothing but stressful. It will be interesting to see if Meyer’s decision has any impact on that of star redshirt sophomore QB Dwayne Haskins who has to decide whether or not to enter the 2019 draft, although the fact that a familiar face in Day will be taking over would likely mitigate that issue. Speaking of Haskins, he is one of the three players who will be at this weekend’s Heisman Trophy announcement along with fellow QBs Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama and Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray.
